You can not short IPOs for 30 days because of the margin requirements. IPOs are not marginable. If you were allotted the IPO through your broker and sold it the same day then you have "flipped" it. Brokers do not like "flippers" because the broker is responsible for making a market in the stock and if too many try to sell then the stock will plummet. If you "flip" you probaby will not be alloted another IPO from that broker. Now, if you just purchased the IPO through the open market you can sell it at anytime, no questions asked. Hopefully I have not confused you.
